3/8/01   The Wildcats traveled to the Flint IMA Arena for their first taste of state semi-final action to meet Sault Saint Marie.  After four overtime periods, the Soo managed to sneak on past on a net scramble to take the game 4 - 3.

The Soo started the game with a goal early in the first, but Novi answered back with two. Brian Jaussi started the Wildcats off unassisted. Sophomore Captain Jared Perras put one between the posts on a pass from Brad Zarem and Justin Collins shortly after to make it 2 - 1 Novi after one.

In the second, Novi's defense shut down the Soo.  Kyle Major put in a beauty on a pass from Novi's defensive rock Jered Genso, making it 3 - 1 Novi after two.

In the third, the Soo managed to sneak two past Novi senior goalie Jeremy Goodman, forcing a sudden-death overtime showdown.  Over-times came and went, but at the end of four, the Soo managed to sneak one past Goodman on a net scramble to take the victory.

Congratulations and thanks to the Novi Hockey Wildcats for an outstanding season.  The overall record for the season: 23 - 4 - 1, with goals for / against: 140 - 70, a two to one advantage!

3/6/01  Novi continued on their campaign for the state championship with a resounding 5 - 0 defeat of Portage Northern Tuesday evening at the Summit Arena in Lansing.  For the second playoff game in a row, Jeremy Goodman earned a well deserved shut-out, as the Huskies made 20 attempts to put one in without success.  In the first period, the Wildcats scored three big goals.  Justin Collins started things of at 6:12 on a power-play goal.  Robbie Harrell put another in three minutes later, and Adam Haberman closed up the first period on a pass from Brad Zarem.  After a score-less second period, Kyle Major started off the third on a power-play goal 29 seconds into the period.  Haberman recorded his second goal of the night less than a minute later to lock up the game for the Cats.  Brad Zarem recorded four assists for the game.  The Wildcats move on Thursday at 6pm to take on Sault Saint Marie in Flint.

3/2/01  Novi won the Regional  Championship for the second straight year by defeating the Lakeland Eagles 1 - 0.  Both teams played excellent, focused and defensive hockey.  Brad Zarem scored the winning goal, a strong shot that went right in from the center, just 48 seconds into the game on a pass from Adam Haberman and Justin Harvey.  For the remainder of the game, the defense on both sides of the red line was solid.  Jeremy Goodman was superb in net, earning the first playoff shut-out in school history.  Novi moves on to play Portage in Okemos Tuesday evening at 6:20pm.

2/28/01  The Wildcats soundly defeated the Pinckney Pirates 10 - 3 in Novi's first playoff action of the season.  The Cats started on the board with a breakaway goal from Brad Zarem on a pass from Nick Karaisz.  Adam Haberman followed that with a beauty, shot right in front of the net, to make it 2 - 0 at the end of one.  In the second, Novi came out strong on goals from Haberman, Kyle Major, Kurt Russell and Zarem.  Pinckney scored twice, making it a 6 - 2 hockey game after two.  The third period was marked with penalties, as the Cats put in four more goals from Chaz-the-man Bulbuk, Fred Napier, John Murray and another by Russell.  Brian Markowicz, back from a recent injury, handled the net well.  Novi moves on to play the Lakeland Eagles Friday evening at 7:25pm and the Novi Ice Arena in what looks to be a great match-up.

2/28/01  Congratulations to Brad Zarem, KVC Player of the Year.  Also making the KVC All Star List, Adam Haberman (2nd team), and Jered Genso, Jared Perras, Brian Markowicz and Jeremy Goodman (honorable mentions).

2/27/01  In the first round of Districts Monday evening, Pinckney defeated South Lyon 7 - 4, and Lakeland defeated Kettering 5 - 1.  That means Northville plays Lakeland at 5:15pm Wednesday, and Novi takes on Pinckney at about 7:40pm Wednesday.  The winners of those two games play Friday at 7:25pm.  All games are hosted by Novi at the Novi Ice Arena.  Special thanks to the Wildcat volunteers for their work at Monday evening's games.

2/18/01  Wildcat Spotlight Player of the Week: Freshman Chaz Bulbuk.  Chaz racked up four points in the Wildcat's win over Pinckney last week.  Chaz is a tough, smart player who will be exciting to watch for the next few years!

2/21/01  Congratulations to the Novi High Schools Hockey Wildcats.  KVC Champions for the second straight year!

2/21/01  The Novi Wildcats took the KVC title this year by themselves after sharing it last year with Milford.  It came down to the last regular season game, and it wasn't easy. The Cats had to get by a much improved Howell team. After beating Howell 13-2 earlier in the year, the Highlanders came in to Cat Country to spoil the party, along with many Bulldogs from Brighton in attendance. Howell got on the board first with a goal from there leading scorer Trent 'Daavettila. Justin Collins answered back from Nick Karaisz and Robbie Harrell. Before the first period ended the Wildcats got the go ahead from Robbie Harrell on a rebound from Kurt Russell. The second period would be a wake up call, or a character builder. After making it 3-1 with a goal from Brian Jaussi, Novi got out-shot 21-8 and gave up 2 to end the second with a 3-3 tie. The third period brought about as much excitement as you could have in one period of hockey. Both Derek Shaw (Howell) and Jeremy Goodman came up big between the pipes. After Howell took a major penalty late in the third, the Wildcat's Adam Haberman iced the KVC title on a nice goal from a Brad Zarem pass.

2/19/01  The Novi Wildcats had revenge on their minds Monday night when they played
host to Livonia Franklin in what looks to be a good clean rivalry brewing.  The Cats came back from a loss to the Patriots earlier in the month to take home a sweet  6-3 victory after finding themselves down 2-0.  It took only one minute to tie it up when Adam Haberman and Brad Zarem scored late in the first period.  Franklin got a goal in the second on a crazy bounce off the glass while Jeremy Goodman was out to handle a dump-in.  Brian Jaussi answered back late
in the second period to tie it at 3. It was all Novi in the third on goals from Jered Genso, Kyle Major and Zarem. Goodman was again sharp, stopping 25 of 28 shots.

2/15/01  The Novi Wildcats came one game closer to sewing up the KVC title last night by beating the Pinckney Pirates at Grand Oaks Arena last night 9-1 with a strong performance by the whole team. Novi scored in all three periods, getting goals from Chaz Bulbak, Adam Haberman and Justin Collins in the first. In the second the Cats poured it on with the scoring coming from Brad Zarem, Brian Vigna, Haberman, and Kyle Major. The Pirates scored at the end of the second to put them on the board. In the third, Zarem and Haberman got the goals to lead the Cats to victory in what was a very clean, hard fought KVC game. Freshman Chaz Bulbak had a big night recording a goal and three assists! Jeremy Goodman was in goal for Novi.

2/14/01  Read about the Wildcats run for the state title in today's Detroit News.

2/13/01  The Team Banquet is Thursday evening, March 15.  Details to follow.

2/12/01  Congratulations to the KVC's top scorer, Brad Zarem, with 32 conference points.  Also leading the Wildcat pack in KVC points: Adam Haberman, Kyle Major, Justin Collins, and Jared Genso -- all in the top 25.

2/11/01  Wildcat Spotlight Player of the Week: Sophomore Captain Jared Perras.  Jared is one of the hardest working Cats we've seen -- a true leader by example.  He gives 110% at every practice and game, and for that we give him a big Wildcat paw on the back!

2/10/01  Novi went on the road last night as the Wildcats faced the Plymouth Salem Rocks. The Salem goalie was just that, ROCK solid. Novi fired 60 shots, out-shooting Salem 60 to 17 to end it with 3-3 tie. Salem got on the board early, and took that 1-0 lead into the first intermission. Novi answered back in the second with a slap-shot goal from freshman Chaz Bulbuk on a pass from Kyle Major. You could tell it was going to be one of those strange nights as the Rocks goalie stood on his head while the Cats kept the play in their zone most of the game, but couldn't get one by. Things got even stranger when what appeared to be a goal by Novi landed in the hands of a Rock player on the goal line. The referees called a penalty shot for Novi. Senior Brad Zarem made no mistake, scoring on the Wildcats first ever penalty shot to tie it up at 2 apiece. In the third, Novi took the lead on Zarem's second of the night only to allow Plymouth to tie it 3-3. Late in the 3rd the Rocks goalie faced an on slot of shots to keep it tied-up. Wildcat goalie Brian Markowicz came up big as well, stopping a point-blank shot in the finally seconds to preserve the tie.

2/7/01  The Wildcats defeated Milford 1 - 0 Wednesday evening at the Novi Ice Arena, and out-shot them 39 - 21.  Sixty shots on goal -- one goal!  Brad Zarem scored that goal five minutes into the third period unassisted.  In a game marked by lots of hard hitting but few penalties, the Wildcats defense was solid, stopping several Milford attempts.  Goalie Jeremy Goodman was rock solid in net, taking away a well deserved shutout.  After the first period, Roger Jaussi introduced the seniors and their parents for Senior Recognition Night.  As usual, he did a great job!

2/4/01  Wildcat Spotlight Player of the Week: Senior Jered Genso.  Jered had three points in the Wildcat's win over Hartland this week.  He is the backbone of the Wildcat defense, and a tough defenseman that other teams just can't get past.  Way to roar Jered!

2/3/01  In a hard-fought contest, the Wildcats were edged out by state-ranked Livonia Franklin 5 - 4 at Eddie Edgar Arena Friday afternoon.  Livonia started off the game with three goals in the first period.  Wildcat Curt Russell scored to make it 1 - 3 at the end of one.  The Wildcats came out growling in the second on a goal from Adam Haberman.  Livonia scored two more, and Brad Zarem answered back.  That made it 3 - 5 after two.  Novi's Justin Collins scored in the third, while the Wildcat defense held off the attack.

1/31/01  The Wildcats defeated the Hartland Eagles 7 - 1 at the Novi Ice Arena Wednesday evening.  It was a fast game, with both teams skating well.  Novi scored three minutes in on a goal by Brad Zarem.  Robbie Harrell had his first of two goals a minute later.  Then, with a minute to go in the first, Adam Haberman scored.  Harrell had his second goal to make it 4 - 0 with 41 seconds to go in the first.  The second period was score-less for fourteen minutes until Adam Haberman put in his second of the evening.  In the third, the Eagles scored first.  Justin Collins answered back with two goals at 10:46 and 9:01.  Novi's defense was solid, and goalie Jeremy Goodman looked sharp, stopped 23 shots on goal for the Cats.  Five Wildcats had three points: Zarem, Haberman, Genso Harrell and Collins.

1/28/01 Wildcat spotlight player of the week: Senior Justin Harvey. Justin had two assists against Plymouth Canton Friday evening, pushing the Cats toward their 6 - 5 victory. Justin's been with the team since it's inception. He's solid and reliable on defense, and he knows how to pass that puck. Way to skate Justin!

1/27/01 The Wildcats went to Milford to make up for the snowed-out December 13 game, but Milford took the win and Novi's first conference loss of the season 3 - 2. Robbie Harrell scored the first goal of the game at 11:22 of the second period. Milford scored late in the second, and again with 0:28 on the clock to make it 2 - 1. As the final buzzer sounded, Novi put one in the net but it was ruled to be after the buzzer, giving Milford the win.  Brian Markowicz had 22 saves and played a sharp game.

1/26/01 The Wildcats defeated Plymouth Canton 6 - 5 in a close one Friday evening and the Novi Ice Arena. Plymouth started on the board in the first period, but with 29 seconds to go Brad Zarem put one between the posts to tie it up. In the second, Adam Haberman wasted no time putting Novi into the lead 27 seconds in. Plymouth scored, and Brian Vigna answered back, followed by another from Justin Collins. Plymouth put in another to make it 4 - 3 Novi at the end of two. Haberman started the third period 66 seconds in with his second goal of the evening. Plymouth put in two two minutes apart to tie up the game. Kurt Russell gave the Wildcats the game with a beauty a half minute later on a pass from Kyle Major. Jeremy Goodman was in net, stopping 33 shots. Novi had 32 shots on goal.

1/24/01  The Wildcats came out with an attitude after their first defeat of the season last week with a 7-1 victory over South Lyon Lions. Novi was up 2-0 within the first two minutes of the game with Brian Jaussi getting a pair. The Wildcats didn't stop there, scoring two more in the next two on goals coming from Robbie Harrell and Fred Napier. In the second, Novi again came out flying with goals from Adam Haberman and Jered Perras. The Lions got their only goal on a point-blank shot from Dan Merrit with 8 seconds left in the period. The only thing that settled down in the third was the score. In a penalty ridden period Haberman notched the sole goal. The period featured 13 of the games 18 penalties. Brad Zarem had three assists in the game. Other Cats pitching in with assists were Brian Eberline, Kyle Major John Murray, Brian Vigna, Garet Malott, Nick Karaisz and newcomer Jordan Collins. Brian Markowicz was sharp in net, stopping 16 of 17 shots including a breakaway. Novi had 53 shots on goal in the game.

1/20/01  Wildcat Spotlight Player of the Week: Senior goalie Brian Markowicz.  Brian was the wall in front of the net in Novi's 3 - 2 win over Brighton Thursday.  He's reliable and unflappable, and always steps up when he's need.  Way to stop 'em Brian!

1/19/01  Novi out-shot the state-ranked Warren DeLaSalle Pilots 27 - 21, but the Pilots took home a 3 - 0 victory this evening at the Novi Ice Arena.  It was a very fast game marked by few penalties.  The Cats, fresh off a major victory over KVC rival Brighton yesterday, were looking to maintain their unbeaten record going in.  But the Pilots had other plans, putting two tough ones past Cat goalie Jeremy Goodman in the first period, and one in the third.  The Wildcats continue their march for the KVC Championship Wednesday at South Lyon.

1/18/01  Novi defeated KVC rival Brighton 3 - 2 at the Ice House Thursday evening.  It was one of the most exciting, roughest, and closest games of the year.  Brian Markowicz made several excellent saves, and looked rock solid in net.  Adam Haberman started the Wildcats off in the first period with a strong shot from the right slot.  Brighton scored in the second, sneaking one past from the corner.  With 2:56 left in the second, Novi's Haberman put another in during a scramble in front of the net.  Brighton came back a minute later to tie it up at 2 - 2 after two.  In the third, Brad Zarem put in a beauty, Novi's game winner, at 9:27 while short-handed on a pass from Nick Karaisz.  Brighton has lost only two games this season -- both to Novi.  The 3rd ranked Wildcats are now 13 - 0 for the season and meet 6th ranked Warren DeLaSalle Friday evening for what looks to be a great match-up.

1/18/01  Novi's Hockey Team gets coverage in today's Detroit Free Press.

1/18/01  Welcome to Jordan Collins, brother of Justin Collins -- the newest Wildcat!

01/14/01  Wildcat Spotlight Player of the Week: Sophomore Justin Collins.  In just his first year on the team, Justin is already racking up the points.  He had a goal and an assist in the last two games, and six points in the past three games.  Way to shoot 'em Justin!

01/10/01  Novi triumphed over the Lakeland Eagles 5 - 4 in a close game this evening at the Novi Ice Arena.  The Wildcats again showed their depth, with five goals from five different Cats.  Lakeland started off on the board, and Novi answered back with two from Robbie Harrell and Brad Zarem.  Lakeland scored again, and again Novi answered with goals from Justin Collins and Bryan Vigna.  Lakeland scored in the second, and Novi's Adam Haberman put a beauty between the posts.  In the third, Lakeland scored the loan goal.  Robbie Harrell had three points for the evening.  Jeremy Goodman was in net, and looked sharp.

01/07/01  Wildcat Spotlight Player of the week: Senior Curt Russell.  Curt had a hat-trick against Howell Wednesday, and scored another goal and picked up an assist against Walled Lake Friday.  Curt's a great puck handler and he's sharp on the ice.  Way to skate Curt!

01/05/01  The Wildcats scored with twelve seconds on the clock to defeat Walled Lake Western 6 - 5 Friday evening.  Adam Haberman had a great game, scoring two goals and notching one assist.  Brad Zarem also had three points, and Curt Russell two.  John Murray also put one on the board.  But it was Justin Collins goal with twelve seconds to go that locked up the game for Novi.  Lakeland pulled a penalty with twenty seconds to go.  Brad Zarem won the face-off, Kyle Major took a shot which was stopped, and Collins put it in the game winning rebound.  Brian Markowicz handled the net for the Cats.

01/05/01  Last night, the undefeated and first place Novi High School Hockey Wildcats (10-0) showed that being a team is more than just a winning record.  They demonstrated their class off the ice by spending several hours at Mott Children’s Hospital at the University of Michigan Medical Center.  The players visited patients in the children’s cancer ward in an effort to bring joy and hope for the very trying times facing these young people.    The children were delighted.  FULL STORY  PHOTO

01/03/01  Novi overcame a 2-0 deficit at the end of one to beat the Howell Highlanders 13-2 Wednesday evening in Howell. 12/17/00  Wildcat Spotlight Player of the Week: Goalie Jeremy Goodman.  Jeremy is a senior, and has been with the team since the inaugural season three years ago.   Tending net against Hartland and Lakeland, he allowed only three goals in two games!  His save percentage, 92%, ranks him as one of the region's best.  Way to stop them Jeremy!

12/15/00  In a battle to the end, Novi iced the Brighton Bulldogs 5 - 4 at the Novi Ice Arena Friday evening.  It was Brighton's first loss of the year.  The undefeated Novi Wildcats are now 6 - 0 for the season.  For the first two-thirds of the first period, it was a very defensive game.  Kyle Major scored at 4:18 while Brighton was short-handed.  Brighton answered back with a goal two minutes later.  Justin Collins put one in between the posts with less than a minute to go in the first, making it 2 - 1 Novi at the end of one.  Brighton came out barking in the second to tie up the game.  The Wildcats growled back with two goals from Brad Zarem and Fred Napier.  In the third, Novi's Jared Perras shot a beauty on a pass from Brad Zarem, making it 5 - 2.  Brighton managed to get two past Brian Markowicz, and struggled hard the last two minutes to tie up the game.  Markowicz kept them at bay with several great saves, making it 5 - 4 in the end.

Lakeland scored midway in the third to tie it up 2 - 2.  Novi iced the game with a late third period goal by Zarem.  Goodman, not feeling well himself, filled in for an absent Brian Markowicz who was out with the flu. Jeremy has now proved that by being patient he, along with Markowicz, has emerged as one of the top goalies in the KVC.

12/6/00  Novi iced an improved Hartland team 4 - 1 Wednesday evening with a strong start, and an equally strong finish.  Brad Zarem and Robbie Harrell started the Wildcats with goals in the first.  Harland scored the lone goal in the second period.  In the third, the Wildcats came out growling with goals from Zarem and Kurt Russell.  Hartland pulled their goalie for an extra attacker for the last 3 minutes.  Newcomer Garet Malott along with Senior Brian Vigna and goalie Jeremy Goodman doing an outstanding job to preserve the win.

11/17/00  The Hockey Wildcats opened the 2000 - 2001 season in fine form Friday evening with a resounding 5 - 1 defeat of rival Northville in front of a packed house at the Novi Ice Arena.  The game started tough, with Northville taking a roughing penalty only 28 seconds in to the game.  Novi started the scoring at 7:39 during another Northville penalty on a goal from Robbie Harrell assisted by Brad Zarem.  That was quickly followed by another from Brad Zarem.  Zarem picked up his second goal of the night at 10:56 of the second period while Novi was skating a man short.  Northville put one in at 3:27.  In the third period, Justin Harvey and new senior Curt Russell each had a goal.
