Hockey Wildcats open season with
loss, then win at tournament
11/20/2011
Novi, MI - The defending State Champion Novi Wildcats opened their
2011-2012 season with a loss, then a win at the Metro Tournament at
the Novi Ice Area Friday and Saturday.
Novi bounced back after a 3-2 loss to
Farmington Unified, against Clarkston to win 4 to 3. Clarkston went
up 2 to 1 over Novi in the middle of the 2nd period before a nice
give-n-go goal was scored by Kent Burnett to tie the game and end
the 2nd period even.
Clarkston started the period on the
power play but that did not stop the penalty killing unit from
scoring a shorthanded goal on a great effort by Curtis Herzog to
move ahead 3 to 2. A few minutes later Kobylarek out raced a
Clarkston player before being taken down and subsequently earning a
penalty shot. Kobylarek buried the penalty shot and Novi's lead went
to 4 to 2.
The never say die Clarkston team
rallied to bring the game within 1 with 33 seconds to go.
Fortunately, Spencer Peterson played strong and the defensive unit
held Clarkston off for a 4 to 3 victory.
Herzog picked up another 2 goals
while Mencer and Burnett picked up their first goal of the season.
Guenther led the assist getters with 2.
