Hockey Wildcats off to strong start with two big weekend victories at Metro Invitational

The Hockey Wildcats started the 2009-2010 season in style over the past weekend, notching two victories in the Metro Invitational at the Novi Ice Arena.

On Friday evening, the 'Cats defeated Wyandotte 9-1. Alex Cova scored the first goal of the season off a Brock Krygier pass. Tyler Perpich notched two goals in the first to make it 3-0 after one period.

In the second period, Zach Mohr started things off, followed by Andrew Cmoulch and Curtis Herzog goals. Wyandotte managed to put one between the pipes to make it 6-1 after two.

Zach Mohr scored three goals, all from Joey Ferriss in the third, to make it a 9-1 hockey game. Ferriss lead the team with six points. Michael Pesendorfer stopped 12 shots in goal for Novi.

On Saturday, the 'Cats faced-off against Rochester United, and won that game 7-1. Matt Stemkoski scored in the first period, and he and Tyler Manning scored in the second to make it 3-0 after two.

In the third period, Tyler Perpich scored short-handed before Rochester was able to put one past Pesendorfer. Ryan McCullough, Brandon Juodikis and Evan Dixon all scored for Novi to seal Rochester's fate.
