May 21, 2012 An artist must
possess Nature. He must identify himself with her
rhythm, by efforts that will prepare the mastery which
will later enable him to express himself in his own
language. After an impressive streak of success, Novi's luck finally seemed to have run out in regards to the Varsity Lacrosse team. Last Thursday the Wildcats faced Holt, who is ranked 2nd in the state, which puts them roughly 14 places ahead of Novi. Though the difference in rank was vast, Novi didn't let that get to them, at least not for a while. In the beginning, Novi proved they were a force to be reckoned with by exhibiting exceptional skill and communication amongst themselves and even had the lead at one point. Though, while approaching the second half, things began to turn into less of a show of the underdog's prosperity and more so of what was actually projected to occur. Holt slowly began to pull away, but not without Novi hanging onto their coattails with all their might. Unfortunately, all Novi's might wasn't enough. Once that became apparent, things became slightly sloppy for the 'Cats. Senior Captain Adam Haynes remarked that "It was a rough game because we lost our rhythm and once that happened we couldn't really get it back." Like an artist with no natural rhythm, mastery could not be obtained, therefore expression could not be exclaimed. The intrinsic flow amongst the team, which is necessary for success, became forced and unsystematic. That was what the 'Cats downfall spawned from. On a lighter note, Novi's season has yet to come to an end, without tournament action coming this week. Being the optimist that he is, Haynes added that "the best thing for us to do now is move forward. We have playoffs coming up soon and we're looking to win." Hopefully Haynes isn't the only one wielding that optimism because the competition will continue to be rigorous and he won't be able to win on his own. (c) 2012 Novi
