Novi Varsity Baseball season looking up

April 30, 2012

Eleven games into the season for the Novi Wildcats Varsity Baseball team and things seem to be noticeably improving. Previous to this point, the 'Cats haven't exactly been performing at the level they would like to be at, so, in attempts to turn that around, they've made some adjustments to the way they practice and things seem to be working out much more in their favor.

According to senior Alex King, the 'Cats "focused on game situations" this week because "in baseball, all the little things count." King remarked that "If we made all the easy plays, we knew we would have a chance to win both games against Grosse Pointe."

King added that as a team, they "took a lot of batting practice as well because we haven't particularly been hitting well this season." He believes "both of these things transferred on Saturday" when playing Grosse Point.

On the 28th of April, the Novi Wildcats Varsity Baseball team traveled to Grosse Pointe and took a swing at executing their newly thought out game plan. With both teams having similar strong points and weakness, a good game was expected.

Novi pitchers appeared to be on point by striking out a multitude of opponents. On top of that, the extra batting practice King informed me of seemed to pay off because the 'Cats didn't let much fly past them.

Novi dominated the first game and still played well in the second but slowly began to lose their touch. Even with that becoming apparent, Grosse Pointe still couldn't match up, leaving Novi with another win.

The 'Cats may have had a slow start to their season, but they clearly took the initiative needed to turn that around. Senior Derek Ince believes that with all the improvements recently made on the team, "we should pick it up here and finish the season strong."

The 'Cats next game will take place Monday, April 30th at Livonia Franklin.
