Novi Varsity Lacrosse works on consistency

April 16, 2012

"Change must always be balanced with some degree of consistency."
  ~ Ron D. Burton

As most of us already know, many changes have been made to this year's Novi Wildcats Varsity Lacrosse team. The program has  been entirely redesigned with the coming of the 'Cats new head coach, Nick Zoroya.

For the most part, these changes have seemed to be successful when applied collectively to the young men on the team. The only issue thus far seems to be that that type of success the 'Cats have been had thus far will most likely not be enough further down the road when teams of greater difficulty come their way.

Last Friday, the 13th,  Varsity Lacrosse traveled to North Farmington and put themselves to the test. The 'Cats got ahead early in the game but seemed to have issues staying there.

The gap between North Farmington's score and Novi's score went up and down, along with the spirits of the athletes. The 'Cats knew they were making mistakes, and for a while, had a seemingly difficult time recovering.

By the end of the game the 'Cats picked it up enough to create a 4 point difference between the two teams, concluding the night with a final score of 14-10.

In conversation with senior captain Adam Haynes, I asked him if there was one word that best described the game. He responded with "inconsistent." According to him, this was because "there were some points where we were playing great, and some where we played down to their [North Farmington's] level."

Haynes also explained that "even though we won, there is still always room for improvement."

The 'Cats next game will be held at home Monday, the 16th. With little down-time between games, one can only hope that Novi has fine-tuned their game and will be prepared for Monday evening's battle.
