Spring brings a new Varsity Track season

March 19, 2012

Spring is coming quickly, which means that this year's track season is on it's way as well.

Practice began Monday, the 12th of March, for the Novi Wildcats boys and girls track teams and a lot of individuals are curious as to whether or not this year's team will be as successful as they were last season.

Coming off of an undefeated regular season record, the 'Cats have a lot to live up to. One could attempt to make predictions at how the squad will turn out this year, but at this point all conclusions would be inaccurate.

As of this year, the Novi Wildcats boys and girls track teams will be participating in a different competitive region, therefore it would be rather difficult to compare the 'Cats to teams they have yet to face.

A change in region is not the only alteration being made in this upcoming season. Due to the resignation of Novi's former hurdle coach, Seth Furlow, the girl's coach, Keith Sisson, is taking over responsibility for both girls and boys hurdle groups.

This combination of boys and girls groups has never before been seen by any of the current athletes on the team which "will take some getting used to" according to junior hurdler, Daron Turner. Though, the differences seem to be quite odd at this point, Turner believes that in the end, "it will help the team more overall because with all the extra competition, we push each other to improve more and more every single day."

Hopefully the 'Cats use the newfound competition to their advantage and do as well, if not better, than they did last year with their undefeated season.

The 'Cats first regular in-season meet is April 10th against South Lyon East. The meet will take place at South Lyon East's track at 4:00 p.m.
