March 12, 2012 With pre-season workouts and practices finally out of the way, the beginning of another great sports season is just around the corner. Varsity Lacrosse tryouts begin today for the Novi Wildcats varsity team, which is creating quite a bit of excitement around the school and community due to the drastic changes made amongst the team. One of the more prevalent changes within the Wildcat Lacrosse program is the new head coach for the varsity squad, Novi alumn Nick Zoroya. Zoroya is a former collegiate lacrosse player himself, which gives him the advantage of having the player's perspective that is so very important towards being a successful coach. Already having coached for multiple teams including Ann Arbor Skyline, along with a summer league team, shows he has experience which is very helpful in the role played by any head coach. On top of that, Zoroya is also a member of the all-state and all-American boards that decide which high school athletes will be awarded those honors. This guy is clearly no amateur. Though, we all know being a head coach is not just about having experience. The ability to connect with a group of teenagers and adapt in a way that creates a productive and healthy environment for all individuals to work in is a huge responsibility held by a coach. The young men on the varsity squad who have been attending pre-season activities have become acquainted with Zoroya and, so far, seem to have nothing but positive remarks to say about him. Senior and four-year varsity player, Adam Haynes explains that it has become apparent that "Zoroya is determined to succeed and has confidence we can make it to states." Haynes also stated that one of the main messages Zoroya seems to be impressing upon the team is that "the work you put in determines the reward you will receive." Hopefully the 'Cats take this message to heart, for if they do, great things will surely come. Tryouts will be over before week's end and a final team will be decided upon. I would like to wish the 'Cats good luck and a successful spring season. I, along with many others in the community, are looking forward to what is to become of the 2012 Novi Wildcats Varsity Lacrosse. (c) 2012 Novi
