February 27, 2012 Most would agree with the thought that the impact that sports have on human beings is so life-altering that unless you are an athlete yourself, you are virtually incapable of understanding their effects. There's something about sports that we humans find so entirely captivating we tend to let them completely engulf our lives, at times. As drastic as this may sound, to a true athlete, it should be an understandable statement. I think this is due to the profound effects that sports have on us. Sports teach: perseverance, comradery, adaptation, patience, selflessness and much more. These fundamental attributes have their way of working themselves in every individuals life somewhere along the way, but for an athlete, between practices, games, and tournaments, they are seen all too frequently. Even though the painful struggle that athletes put themselves through is not easy, the reward of understanding their disposition which is granted through participation in sports makes it all worthwhile. Here at Novi High School, we are lucky enough to have the opportunity to participate in a wide range of athletics, whereas some other communities are not so fortunate. Having said this, I thought a group that so often goes unnoticed and unappreciated should certainly be acknowledged for all of their efforts; The Novi Athletic Boosters. Without their commitment to the community and overall love of athletics, Novi would not be the place that it is today. In fact, just recently the Novi Athletic Boosters helped generate funds for eight Novi High School spring athletic teams, including the newly formed Girls Lacrosse team, totaling $16,425. Even more amazing, in December 2011 the Boosters were recognized for achieving the milestone of having raised $1 million in ten years for Novi Athletics. It is because of the Boosters that we are given the ability to take part in athletics here in Novi. So, in an indirect way, for all of the athletes here in Novi, it is because of the Boosters that we have developed into the individuals that we are today. Personally, I know what they have done has helped me develop and therefore, I would like to thank the Novi Athletic Boosters on behalf of all who are included in the receiving end of their work for Novi Athletics for the exceptional job that they have done, and continue to do.
