February 6, 2012 On Saturday, February 4th, the Novi Wildcats Varsity Wrestling team took part in one of the last few remaining meets of the season, the KLAA wrestling tournament. Within the tournament, fifteen teams arrived to compete, but only eight of which would be able to acquire enough points to place among the ranks of 1-8. Unfortunately, Novi's squad didn't perform quite as well as expected and were not able to win the necessary amount of matches to allow them to place. Though the 'Cats didn't finish the tournament as well as they had hoped, they are all mature enough to not let a loss bring them down, but instead instill within them the strength they need to better themselves and understand that their fight has yet to end. Next Saturday, February 11th, the boys will participate in the team districts tournament. With their recent loss in mind, the 'Cats are aware they need to make some changes in order for any type of victory to come from the team district tournament. To get a better idea at what types of improvements may be set into place, I spoke with senior varsity wrestler Giddiani Albuerne. Albuerne began to explain the method of training in which they think helps them grow the most. According to Albuerne, the 'Cats are "going to shorten practices but also greatly intensify them at the same time. That way, we can push ourselves more to mimic an actual match without being too worn out for the upcoming tournament." Hopefully these improvements to the 'Cats squad will be enough to allow the team to qualify for regionals, and ultimately, states, which is coming up in the not so distant future. (c) 2012 Novi
