January 29, 2012 "What we call
little things are merely the causes of great things; they
are the beginning, the embryo, and it is the point of
departure which, generally speaking, decides the whole
future of an existence. One single black speck may be the
beginning of a gangrene, of a storm, of a revolution." Throughout life, we are always told of the great importance that the "little things" bring to the table. What does this really mean, though? What are these "little things" that are so commonly referred to? These little things are, quite literally, everywhere. Yet, so often they go unnoticed. How might this relate to
sports you ask? Getting there... In attempts to bring these
"little things" to life, I thought a real-life example best
be in order: The Novi Wildcats Varsity Basketball team's
last win was attained after defeating South Lyon East 61-30.
If instead of treating the
win as a "gimme" against South Lyon East, one looks at it
more as a small obstacle which was necessary to overcome in
order to achieve anything great, it has a much nicer ring to
it. Dwelling on past possibilities is not the point of this though. The point is that a victory, no matter how small, is still a victory and that a win against South Lyon East may not be the beginning of a storm or a revolution, but it may be the beginning of a successful season. (c) 2012 Novi
