Speaking |
January 22, 2012 Generally, when speaking of reverting back to one's old ways, it is usually a negative reference. When speaking of the Novi Wildcat's Varsity Hockey team's most recent games, it is the exact opposite. The former excellence that once resided within the varsity team momentarily disappeared, causing an unfortunate turn of events for the 'Cats. Though, after witnessing two 8-0 mercy shutouts the 'Cats dealt to East Kentwood and Grandville on Friday and Saturday, one may have reason to believe that the excellence has certainly returned. So, where might this serge of skill come from, you ask? According to senior Travis Trainor, "after the disappointing performances during the Calumet trip, we realized something needed to be changed. We started taking practices more serious and working harder." On top of that, the 'Cats "also changed some of the offensive attacks during the Grandville game," Trainor explained, and that by making these changes, it caused "every line to communicate and work together, which was key in mercying Grandville." One can't help but have at least a little doubt remaining towards the 'Cats capabilities, though. Will these few changes be enough to keep them back on track and allow the continuance of their current skill? Let's hope so! Now that we've seen the returning state champs reach their comfort zone, the only thing left to do is hope that they stay there. I believe that this Saturday's game against Novi's all-time-rival, the Northville Mustangs, will be the perfect test in determining where the 'Cats stand. In a game such as this, anything could happen. (c) 2012 Novi
