Why unity and teamwork is so important

October 16, 2011

Unity and teamwork is a necessity when it comes to winning in any athletic event. Many teams struggle with playing together because oftentimes, teams have some hot-shot athlete who's only interest is how good his and only his stats looks. We've all seen it so there's no denying it's existence.

But when a team gets past the point of selfishness and comes together as a unit with one common goal in mind, something great can happen. That is when a team truly becomes a team.

The Novi Varsity Wildcats Soccer team no longer struggles with selfishness. They made this apparent when traveling to Grand Blanc last Wednesday for the association cross-over game. Senior Chase Jabbori even remarked that it was their "best game yet as a team."

Once the 'Cats got into a rhythm, Jabbori, Clay King, Matt Wilson, and Tyler Holt put their abilities on display for all and each scored a goal, resulting in a 4-0 match.

The 'Cats relentless defense also stepped up and didn't stop until the game was over which forced the shut out against Grand Blanc.

If the 'Cats keep up their selfless playing strategy who knows how far they could go. Maybe they could gain the same national recognition that the Novi varsity girls team has.

Lets take things one step at a time though. We'll just have to wait and see how the rest of the season unfolds.

The next opportunity to see the 'Cats in action will be this Monday at 6:00 p.m. when they take on Plymouth Salem in the first round of the playoffs, at home.
