June 5, 2011 The Novi Wildcats Varsity Lacrosse team
went head to head with their cross-town rival, the Catholic Central (CC)
Shamrocks in the Regional Finals last week. Everyone expected a good
game due to the immense talent on both teams but no one could predict
how it would end. Again, teamwork was an effective factor in the performance given by the 'Cats, but there were also multiple individual players who went above and beyond. Those players consisted of Seniors Joe Mikkelsen, who caused the Shamrocks a great amount of trouble with face-offs, Taylor Howell, who had four goals including the game winner, and Greg Kolis, who also contributed two goals to the 'Cats overall total. With the help and leadership of the Seniors, combined with the rest of the team all working toward one common goal of defeating the CC Shamrocks, it would be a difficult task for any team, no matter how skilled or talented, to stop the 'Cats. This was made apparent when the 'Cats showed their relentless attitude and took the game into overtime and defeated the Shamrocks by one, ending the game with a final score of 13-12 and extending their season record to 16-1. In the next round of the playoffs the 'Cats face off against the one and only team that has defeated them their entire season, Forest Hills Eastern. The 'Cats have come a long way since their last encounter so I'm confident they'll be able to pull off another upset if they continue to play the way they are. (c) 2011 Novi
