How to move from good...
to great

April 24, 2011

Thursday, Novi Wildcats Varsity Lacrosse took on South Lyon at the Lion's home field, "The Jungle." It was a good game, but it could have been great.

South Lyon is ranked 23rd in the state, while Novi is positioned at 18th. This would incline one to think that the teams would have a close amount of talent or skill. This was not the case on Thursday night.

According to junior, Adam Haynes, the 'Cats had one of their worst games of the season but were still able to muster up enough talent and athleticism out of their poor performance to tame the Lions.

The lack of team work on the field on the Novi side was more than apparent. The 'Cats have great individual talent but at times, have the tendency to play for themselves rather than the team as a whole.

The egocentrism which was evident in Thursday's game could lead to the downfall of this team and is something that needs to be rid of in order for the 'Cats to have a shot at advancing from good to great.

Moving on from the negative aspects of the game, I found one detail of it to be rather impressive - the performance given by junior goalie Alex Kinnamon.

When the team isn't playing together it can be hard to maintain focus on the ultimate goal of simply winning the game. Somehow Kinnamon looked past the egos of his teammates and helped the 'Cats bring in the win with a final score of 6-2.

Though the 'Cats won, we all know the game could have been much different had they played as a team. Hopefully the 'Cats can move on from the current attitude they have and look at the bigger picture; playing as a team and gaining the win.

The 'Cats next game is scheduled to be home this Wednesday at 6:30 PM against Walled Lake Western.
