February 6, 2011 The Novi Wildcats Varsity Boys Basketball team went up against their all time rival, the Northville Mustangs Friday for the second time this season. With a crushing defeat handed to the Mustangs last time on the Mustang's home court, the 'Cats thought they had nothing to worry about when they knew they were playing them at home with all their fans backing them up. They were mistaken. The score was way too close for comfort most of the game with Novi up by only three points at the end of the first quarter (15-12) and at half time (25-22) as well. I was curious as to why the 'Cats dominated so well last time and barely had any breathing room this time so I spoke to one of the players. Samer Ozeir, a senior on the team, explained that this was because "Last time we played them everyone was hitting their shots but on Friday we only hit two jump shots as a team." I thought that maybe this was due to lack of focus or possibly underestimating their opponent. Though that's just my opinion. What I know for a fact is that in the end the 'Cats came out on top after finally pulling away in the fourth quarter, and ended the game with a final score of 55-43. I was aware that Ozeir has never lost to Northville in his high school basketball career so I asked him how that felt. He told me "It feels like we're better than our rivals and now I have no regrets." Never losing to your all time rival is something only few can say. Good job 'Cats. Keep up the good work! The 'Cats next game is home this Tuesday against Livonia Stevenson. They hope to have the stands filled with fans cheering them on. (c) 2011 Novi
