Shamrock Radio -
A great show for all

January 31, 2010

On Friday January 29th, WJR’s (AM Radio 760) Paul W. Smith hosted his morning show on the campus of Novi Catholic Central High School. It was a great show.

They featured guests that were CC alums, from the class of ’62, ’77, ’80, and so on… One after another, these distinguished gentlemen had blossomed into successful businessman, family men, CEOs, and even political candidates.

All were humble, gracious, and very laudatory of the mantra that Catholic Central teaches; Knowledge, goodness and discipline. It was clear those values had resonated, and manifested themselves into quite an array of accomplished alumni.

Neatly tucked into the conversation, but not necessarily a focal point, was that each of these men had been involved in athletics. One was an All-State soccer player, another played hockey, and so on.

The subtext was that the diligence in the classroom carried onto the playing field as well. In other words, the playing field was an extension of the classroom. Learning life skills on the playing field was an integral part of the education at Catholic Central.

Discipline, fundamentals, giving your best effort even though there are no guarantees, and putting the team above all, were just some of the nuggets that were highlighted during the morning conversation.

That type of philosophy has netted Catholic Central numerous State Championships in several sports, including this season’s undefeated football team.

But more importantly it has set a tone, and a standard of excellence that anyone can benefit from…

Kudos to Novi Catholic Central High School… The Friday morning show was a great learning experience, and a reminder of what’s most important in life.

School was definitely in session…
