There are only two types of people in the world; those that like Brett Favre, and those who don't...I like Brett Favre and he proved Sunday that he not only has the heart of a champion, but he still has the skills to back it up. It was surreal to watch Green Bay's favorite son booed unmercifully, but the opposite of love is not hate, it's indifference. People still care, they had a lot invested.

And, make no mistake, the Minnesota Vikings did not sign Favre out of charity. They did it because they believed he was the QB that could lead them to the promised land and so far, so good...

That's another great thing about sports. If you can become a contributing, valued member of a team, they will find a spot for you regardless of politics, race, religion or whatever. Your actions speak very loud in the world of sports. Coach Chuck Knox, formerly of the Rams, Bills and Seahawks used to say, "I don't hear anything you say, but hear everything you do." In other words, you can't talk your way into the lineup, your contribution to the team is the only thing that matters. That keeps everything pure and honest.

Brett Favre is a rare individual. In the late '90's he overcame alcoholism and pain-killer dependency, and he's been clean since 1996. How many people do you know that could've done that? To me, that speaks of his character, and it speaks quite highly. Deep down, I think Favre needs to stay busy, as too much idle time could resurrect old demons, and he has the presence of mind and fortitude to know it.

I am a Brett Favre fan. His actions on the field are merely the metaphor for the tough minded, competitive spirit that lives within. Every team is better with people like Brett Favre. Just ask the Green Bay Packers.
