Madness in
April, too

April 5, 2009

How ironic is this? March Madness featured the Final Four… in April this year! I guess it only stands to reason. After all, there is no other sporting event that is hyped as much as the NCAA basketball tourney. Except well, maybe the Super Bowl. In fact, most people get their brackets in early, in anticipation of genuine mayhem.

Who do these guys think they are, the MHSAA? Given the lull in the past couple of weeks, I bet you’d agree we’ve all been hooked on the high drama and intense action Novi teams have displayed on the gridiron, the court, the ice, the basketball court, etc. these past few months.

Now with baseball, track and field, soccer and lacrosse starting up, we can look to more madness, more unpredictability, and more excitement as we wind down another school year.

On April 6th, another NCAA basketball champion is crowned, and another session of March Madness will be in the books.

But for Novi residents, we get to look forward with anticipation and fun as to what storylines will emerge from the upcoming spring sports.

Will Coach Green’s baseball team capture another District title to add to the two he has in the last three seasons?

Will Coach Smith’s track team produce more state qualifiers and perhaps win the KVC? Will Coach O’Leary’s soccer squad make a run at a coveted state title?

Hyperbole is a big part of sports, and it’s not hard to manufacture excitement for our Novi Wildcat athletic teams, it seems to happen all by itself.

And when it comes to Novi Wildcat sports, much like the event we call March Madness, they always live up to the hype.

See you at the game… And you might want to get there early.
