February 15, 2009 Thursday, February 19th, marks the one month anniversary of a sensational accomplishment of two Novi girls. I’ve been saying the cupboard is well stocked for future Novi Women’s High School Soccer, and now we have even more evidence. Novi’s own Kendall Kramer and Megan Buckingham were part of a Michigan contingent that competed in the World 3 v 3 Soccer Championships in January, in Orlando, Florida… and emerged as World Champions! After disposing of entries from Indiana, South Carolina, Virginia, Illinois and Ohio, ‘Team Michigan’ advanced to the quarterfinals where they would face a tough squad from Pennsylvania, but they easily bested them 8-2, and it was onto the Semi-Finals. The domination would continue, as they thumped Carmel United 7-2, to earn the right to play for all the marbles against the defending champion, Central Florida Futbol Freaks. The Freaks were not only the pre-tournament #1 seed; no team had come within 4 goals of them during any of their contests in the last two years. The game proved to be an epic battle as Team Michigan held a slim 3-2 lead at halftime. But they turned on the jets in the second half and pulled away with an impressive 7-3 victory! Not bad for the 23rd seeded group in the tournament that featured teams from as far away as California. And while garnering an 8-0 record, along the way the outscored their opponents 67-16! The balance of the team is as follows: Jordan Newman
from Swartz Creek MI (U13 Michigan Hawks); Rubina Veerakone from
Caledonia MI (U13 Grand Rapids Crew); Maria Jaramillo from Windsor,
Ontario (U13 Michigan Gators); and Taylor Sancegraw from Farmington, MO
(U13 St. Louis Soccer Club United). Congratulations to Novi residents and future Wildcats Kendall Kramer and Megan Buckingham. In addition to duly crediting their teammates and coaches for doing such an amazing job, they announced some big plans… They plan to return next year to defend their crown. Big props to these young ladies for their significant achievements, they’ve represented Novi with class and dignity, and they did it loud and proud. (c) 2009 Novi
