Getting out the Vote

October 27, 2008

For Novi residents, voting in November will have a double entendre… Congratulations are in order for Wildcat graduate AJ Glubzinski, as he was recently named one of the 10 finalists for the Lowe’s Senior Class Award in the Men’s Soccer Division.

A senior at West Point, Army Cadet Glubzinski will compete against other finalists from such prestigious institutions as Notre Dame, Harvard, University of California-Davis, and Brown University just to name a few. The award signifies a tribute to premier NCAA Division I college seniors and the balloting process was launched just last week.

The 10 finalists were placed on an official ballot the other day and voting will continue until November 19th. Fans can vote online during this time period by logging onto www.seniorclassaward.com, and the winner will be announced in Mid-December.

AJ Glubzinski has worked very hard and is deserving of this recognition. In addition to his stellar play on the pitch, he was a Second-Team Academic All-American last year, and he has devoted countless hours in community service while carrying a 4.0 GPA.

And in addition to becoming a platoon sergeant this year, which carries the responsibility of training 30 cadets, he also runs a weekly Bible study group and is active in the Fellowship of Christian athletes.

The Novi native has accumulated so many accolades it would be impossible to mention them all in this column, but suffice it to say, his accomplishments deserve to be recognized and congratulated.

Glubzinski deserves to find himself in this rarified air, listed among the Nation’s elite, and in the future he hopes someday to be elected Mayor of Detroit.

But for now, you can vote for AJ Glubzinski, as he has represented our community with dignity and class. He has absolutely used his athletic platform to make a positive impact on his peers and certainly his circle of influence.

And, he’s done it loud and proud…
