Life imitates art, and even elections
“People will forgive anything,
except boredom” -Voltaire

October 20, 2008

You never like the way you lose, but Friday night’s 38-21 loss to Canton shouldn’t cause too much consternation. At least it was exciting from a fan’s perspective. And, if past is prologue, Coach Kellepourey and his staff will study film, have a solid week of practice and rebound in Week 8 while setting the stage for a successful District and possibly Regional Championship. That’s the beauty of sports, and even elections… You get knocked down, and you keep getting up. That’s what winners do…

I am not touting political views here, but you might find it interesting that Joe Biden was an outstanding HS football player, and the toughness and resilience he learned on the field was tested when his first wife was killed in an auto accident. A 6-time senator, he may be the next VP. And his running mate, Barack Obama was a very good basketball in HS in Hawaii. Actually, he didn’t even start on the varsity his senior year, but the work ethic refined on the court as the 6th man has carried over into his adult life, and he may be the next President.

John McCain was also a football player in HS and his ability to remain mentally tough as a prisoner of war sustained him and at the tender age of 72, his will to compete in the face of opposition may land him the job as our nation’s 44th president.

Meanwhile Sarah Palin was an athlete in her own right, and her will to compete has led her to success in many areas, and was even a sportscaster in the late 80’s. And her personal life has posed many challenges. She has an autistic child, a 17-year old pregnant daughter, and a son that faces harms way in Iraq as you read this missive. But that hasn’t stopped her from jumping full-force into the game, and she may be our next Vice President at age 43.

All these people have two things in common; Their personal resumes including involvement in sports, and their resilience and willingness to fight in spite of personal and professional setbacks is the reason they are where they are.

The Novi Wildcats have 9 lives. One loss won’t change the fact they have work to be done, and in the next few weeks, their mission will be anything but boring…
