September 29, 2008 A couple of years ago, I reached into my pocket for a $5 to gain admission to a Novi Wildcat Varsity baseball game, and I was happy to do it. A parent directly behind me complained vehemently that he disagreed with the policy. The volunteer behind the ticket counter replied, "If we're paying the kids are playing, and that is what's important. Do you have a son playing today?" In the last two years, state funding for high school athletics has been cut by approximately 33%, but the Novi Athletic Boosters rose to the challenge, and they've done a phenomenal job in raising money and awareness. During that same period, The Novi Athletic Boosters Club increased their revenue by 50% and it now exceeds $220,000 annually. They did it with hard work, dedication, community spirit and a lot of ingenuity. From spirit wear, concessions, game programs, etc. the Novi Boosters have found a way to contribute greatly. Not only do their efforts result in a more favorable experience for the athletes, but they are part and parcel to an education that will benefit these kids and the City of Novi for a lifetime. Sports and life are an activist pursuit, and successful leaders know that. Big props to the Novi Athletic Boosters for getting into the game, and not standing idly by on the sidelines. In sports and life, you define the moment, or the moment defines you. The Novi Athletic Boosters is defined by their excellence and their performance needs to be recognized and congratulated.
