Novi Still in
the Hunt

11/3/07

First, congratulations to the Novi Wildcat football team for a great season. And, congratulations to the host Livonia Stevenson Spartans for an impressive playoff victory. They were well coached and they executed with precision.

But for MSHAA historian and fans that still enjoy the continuing competition even though their team has been eliminated, note your calendar for next week’s Regional final as the Novi-Catholic Shamrocks invade Holt in what could decide the eventual State Champion.

Back in 1995 these two teams collided at the Silverdome and CC prevailed 24-0, capturing yet another crown. However, Holt the faithful still talk about that game and it will be in the back of their minds Friday night all the way up to kickoff.

Holt is fresh from defeating an almost invincible Rockford Team that had won 2 of the last 3 State Titles, and meanwhile CC mowed down Howell and Lansing Everett in back-to-back road games to capture their District title fight.

It has been a gratifying season for the Shamrocks. They have rebounded nicely from a losing season in 2006, their first since Moby Dick was a minnow, and they now represent Novi, just the way the Wildcats have done so nicely for the last 40 years.

There can be an empty feeling when your team exits the postseason competition before you want them to, but there is still plenty of playoff action left and next week should be a dandy.

In the meantime, no one can deny these last two months for Novi Wildcat Football fans has been a terrific journey.

And, we all enjoyed the ride…
