Four Will Restore
the Roar

9/9/07

After a 41-13 drubbing of Pinckney, the Novi Wildcat Footballers are back in the playoff hunt. Granted, the Ann Arbor Pioneer decision was a gift, but nobody should apologize for getting a break now and then, especially if they take advantage of it, and they can.

Forget the dropped passes, blown assignments and untimely penalties, I think this version of Coach Kellepourey’s Novi squad has plenty of athleticism and heart to show up and battle every week.

Frankly, as I look down their schedule, I expect them to win 4 of their remaining 6 games and after a one-year hiatus, they will return to the MHSAA State Playoffs, where they have been a fixture in this millennium.

In fact since 2000, they sport a record of 8-6 in the postseason, including two District Championships and one Regional Championship. Just inches from the Dome in 2003, people still talk about Novi’s final offensive play in overtime as they fell to Brother Rice.

Ironically, the 2007 Wildcats could realistically be 3-0 and with the help of a few refinements and a little more game experience this team has real potential.

In fact they probably don’t even know how good they can be. The KVC is more balanced than people realize and although Milford was anointed the pre-season favorite with South Lyon a close second, Lakeland has shown they will have a say in the matter and Novi will get South Lyon on their home turf.

For now it’s off to Howell as the Cats will be looking to get to win #3.

Restoring the roar won’t be easy, but it certainly is achievable. It’s become tradition in Novi, and tradition never graduates.
