Happy Fathers
(and Mothers) Day

6/17/07

‘Kosmo’ from the Oakland Press was half right… He said the final score would be 2-1. But…he had the wrong team winning, and on the field where it mattered most, it was the Novi Wildcat Girls Soccer Team capturing their 3rd straight State Championship, defeating #1 State Ranked Rochester by the above-mentioned score.

Years ago I got to interview former USA Hockey Captain Mike Eruzione, and it was an absolute thrill. Eruzione scored the game winning goal in the famous “Miracle on Ice” game against the insurmountable Soviet Union back in February 1980 in the Winter Olympics, and ultimately helped lead his team to an improbable, impossible Gold Medal, prompting Hall-of-Fame announcer Al Michaels to utter the famous phrase, “Do you believe in miracles!!??”

The thing I remember most is that all Eruzione talked about was how much his teammates meant to him, and how important it was to note that their success was a complete team effort, from the first practice 9 months earlier, to the ultimate championship game. Every last person on the roster mattered. There was no question that he was utterly sincere.

There is nothing left to say about this amazing group of kids. They’ve given their school, their community, and of course their fathers and mothers a gift that will be cherished for a lifetime. Make no mistake, it was an absolute team effort.

And… that goes for the entire team!…Katie Chaklos, Courtney Milon, Emily Esbrook, Ellen Brinza, Stephanie Janssens, Jamie Fratto, Kristine Chaklos, Jessica Barndt, Alyssa Fraser, Rachel Barndt, Veronica Salens, Morgan Haffey, Shannon Cody, Alli Howard, Stephanie Crawford, Chelsey Budlong, Kelsey Laux, Erin Zerio, Lauren Vance, Megan Burns, Jenna Carosio, and of course Coaches Brian O’Leary and Mike Ziegler!

It’s been 27 years since Team USA captured the Olympic Hockey Gold Medal and people still talk about like it just happened last week. There is no doubt in my mind, the 2007 Novi Wildcats will be talked about with the same type of reverence for many years to come. You did it again! As a TEAM!

And you did it loud and proud…

It is truly a happy day for Novi Fathers (and mothers).
