3/6/2007 When the Novi Wildcat Hockey team skated onto the ice for its first ever game on Nov. 18, 1998, most of the players on this year’s team were in the 3rd or 4th grade. But, tradition really doesn’t ever graduate. Congratulations to the Cats for capturing yet another Regional Championship in dramatic fashion against the Lakeland Eagles. When the Novi Wildcat Basketball team drew Novi-Catholic Central for its first round opponent in District Playoff action, they were afforded the opportunity to knock off the Shamrocks and avenge losses in football and baseball against their new local rival in recent years. Even though the game wasn’t decided until the final minute, the Cats got it done, and frankly I hope this spawns future contests vs. CC in all sports. Both schools are right around the corner from each other and each side enjoys a healthy respect for their counterparts. Add to that the Volleyball team is advancing to Regional Playoffs and Varsity Cheer is heading to State Finals, and March has opened with a bang. Meanwhile, I’m headed to California for my annual spring baseball fix and Saturday March 10th, I’m going to see the Michigan Wolverines play San Diego State and I’ll make sure to say hello to Novi alum Kevin Cislo, as he enjoys success as a sophomore middle infielder for Coach Rich Mahoney’s Maize and Blue. And finally, let’s not forget 2000 graduate Mitch Maier. Mitch made his Major League debut last September with the Kansas City Royals, and is currently in Spring Training with the Big Club. At home, on the road, and at every level, the Novi Wildcats have it covered. It is a great testament to an outstanding community and our highly accomplished high school athletes. (c) 2007 Novi
