In like a Lion…
Out like a lamb

2/19/2007

After watching the Novi Wildcat Hockey team make short work of the South Lyon Lions, it was great to step back and look at the big picture, and observe with awe how this program has matured immensely since 1998, when it was a newborn.

On the south arena wall, there are posters that chronicle the amazing success they have achieved. Multiple KVC titles, 5 Regional Championships, State Quarterfinalist, State Semifinalists, and gaudy records to boot.

It was a treat to watch the kids take the ice for their pre-game skate with music blaring and energy filling the arena. The collective talent level is as high as it’s been in my view. The players are skilled, they are great skaters and passers, they move well without the puck and they seem to know their assignments.

They work well as a team, they are intelligent and their physical attitude is very workmanlike. Now coached by former NHL’er Todd Krygier, these young men go about their business in a very serious fashion.

In terms of entertainment for the fans, everything is first class. So, when Novi hosts the Regional Playoffs beginning on Monday Feb 26th, it’s important that everyone come out to support this fine unit.

Now, I know that certain cynics will point out that their record isn’t as impressive as in the past, or perhaps they might not be favorites to advance past the Regional. But, one should also note this team has played a very difficult schedule and the caliber of high school hockey is much better than in the past.

Having said that; win, lose, or draw this program is healthy and represents Wildcat Country and  Novi with the best of them.

Great facilities, terrific atmosphere, excellent competition and affordable entertainment.

And, add to that they are gracious hosts.

Unless of course, you’re the visiting South Lyon Lions…
