KVC you later...

10/23/06

The KVC has truly come of age - it is one of the toughest conferences in the state. When was the last time Novi and Brighton failed to qualify for the postseason, and yet, 4 other KVC members still made it to District playoffs?!?

And, take a look at how successful KVC teams did last Friday in the final game against rival conferences. Brighton and Hartland, two non-playoff teams, disposed of Livonia Stevenson and Ypsilanti, respectively. Stevenson and Ypsi are actually playoff bound.

Meanwhile Howell got by (7-1) Highland Park 14-12, Milford crushed Edsel Ford 50-17, and South Lyon owned a very talented (7-1) Saline team, 41-0.

White Lake Lakeland, a team Novi defeated at their place, smoked Walled Lake Northern 43-0, as the Eagles prepare for their first playoff appearance in quite awhile.

And of course, the Novi Wildcats retained local bragging rights by downing the Northville Mustangs on the road Friday night, besting their cross-town rivals 27-17.

I look for the KVC to show well in the playoffs. Of course the MHSAA in their infinite wisdom, has matched Milford and Howell in the first round, so one will take an early exit, while one is guaranteed to play for a District championship.

In 1995, the South Lyon Lions, advanced to the ‘Dome’ and lost in the waning seconds to Lapeer West, and just last year Brighton lost in overtime to the eventual State Champion Rockford Rams in the Semi-Finals.

In 2004, Novi’s 12-1 team lost in overtime in the Semi-Finals as well, so as one can see, the KVC is knocking on the door, and it’s just a matter of time before they kick it down.

Go KVC… I think we’ll be seeing you deep into the playoffs this season, maybe even down at Ford Field on Thanksgiving Weekend.

In other words… KVC you later!
