10/9/06 They say nothing lasts forever, but actually some things might come close. In the calendar year 2006, any soccer team coached by Brian O’Leary had yet to lose a game. Last spring, the women’s team garnered a sparkling 24-0 record on the way to another State Championship as they defeated crosstown rival Northville in the finals. And of course, they completed the 2005 campaign in undefeated fashion as well, capturing the State Championship against KVC rival Brighton, finishing the season with a gaudy 24-0-1 record. So when the men’s team rocketed out to a 9-0 start this fall, the undefeated streak was completely off the hook. Novi HS has, and always will play a tough schedule in soccer rich Michigan. From Livonia Stevenson, to Brighton, to the OAA schools to of course Northville, the Cat’s have taken all comers and they’ve done it in fine fashion. So when Northville prevailed recently in a hard-fought 1-0 game, the only appropriate thing to do was to stand up and cheer for what has been an incredible run of fun. And the fun continues… In fact we are only a week away from District Play, as the Novi Wildcats will compete in the tough Walled Lake Western District against the likes of Livonia Stevenson, Farmington, Novi-Catholic Central, and of course Northville, where they may get a chance to avenge their only loss of the season. And, just for the record, Novi is still undefeated… in KVC play. In the meantime, look for another streak to start. A Cat has nine lives, and a Novi Wildcat will never say die. (c) 2006 Novi
