Cooler than the
other side of
the pillow

Today we begin with a corny joke:

Q- Why is it always so cool at Novi Wildcat soccer games?
A-Because there’s a fan in every seat!

Thanks, I’m here all week… and so was a very successful Regional Championship soccer team, and they’ll be back next week… as will the fans.

And when longtime Novi staunch supporters Doug Reichley and Greg Cocke showed up to cheer on the Lady Cats this past week, it proved once again that the Novi Wildcat fan base is a thing to behold.

Duke may have their ‘Cameron Crazies’, the Arizona State Baseball team has their legendary ‘Hallmark Hecklers,’ and MSU may feature it’s own ‘Izzone’, but if you took a look on the south side of the stadium, you’ll notice a growing contingent. They are a student cheering section of wacky, crazy, zany Novi cheerleaders that has assembled, and they’re doing a fine job.

Complete with painted faces and bodies, signage, props, gimmicks and raucous behavior, their presence has helped create excitement and positive energy for the home team.

Their choreographed routine is even starting to develop a cadence of its own. When the visiting team’s starting lineup is announced, after each name is presented, they rebound with a rambunctious ‘who!!!!’… And of course they go crazy over goals, great plays, assists, and generally whenever they feel like it.

And the best part of it, is that their exertion is neither mean-spirited or remotely un-sportsmanlike. And, I believe their efforts are not only noticed and appreciated by the Novi players, but they feed off the positive energy and recognition.

In their own way, the green clad Novi fan base has contributed to another successful season with their passionate behavior. The term ‘fan,’ is actually a derivative of the word, ‘fanatic’, and in this case it’s a good thing.

In fact, a very good thing.

You could even say it’s the coolest.
