3/19/06 Kudos to John Smith and Dave Zarem for starting another athletic team for the Novi High School Wildcats. After successfully helping to build a top-flight ice hockey program from scratch, say hello to the new Varsity Inline Hockey program at Novi High! Tryouts are March 27th at 4:00 p.m. at Total Roller Hockey in Wixom. More information can be found on their website at www.totalrollerhockey.com. Although Novi is only the fourth school to recognize Inline Hockey as a varsity sport (along with Howell, Hartland, and Rockford), it is just a matter of time before this catches on. Inline Hockey is already a hit in California and the game are fast paced, exciting and they feature great athleticism. League play will begin April 9th and will run through mid-June, with games being played on Thursday and Sunday evenings at Total Roller Hockey of Wixom. At this time the MHSAA does not recognize Inline Hockey as a sanctioned Varsity Sport, but the Amateur Athletic Association does govern play with rules and guidelines, and in fact, the AAU will host the State Tournament Playoffs in Wixom beginning May 19th. Special thanks to the Wildcat Booster Club for providing donations and financial support that enabled the team to equip themselves with home and away jerseys for the varsity team too! Given the achievements that Novi's ice hockey program has earned in its first few years, there is little doubt the Inline team is on its way to their own accomplishments as well. Now, Novi is ‘Hockeytown-West’ in Spring, as well as Winter. (c) 2006 Novi
