2/13/06 Congratulations are in order for a certain Novi Varsity Assistant Football Coach, respected teacher, and longtime fixture in the district… His name: Mr. David Hartman. After 26 years of service, Coach Hartman was recently honored by the Michigan High School Football Coaches Association (MHSFCA). There are over 700 High Schools participating in football in Michigan and over 2,500 assistant coaches on the Varsity level. Coach Hartman, however, has reached the rarified air of being named one of a handful of ‘MHSFCA Assistant Coaches of the Year.’ The MHSFCA is a highly renowned, nationally recognized organization. From football clinics, to newsletters, conferences, trend-setting and leadership, the MHSFCA is the face of HS football in Michigan. So, when you receive this type of recognition, it comes directly from your peers, the ones that have walked in your shoes and are acutely aware of the contributions you make to your school and your football program. How does one achieve such an honor? It’s simple. By providing consistent service, positive influence and applying teaching and coaching skills that lead to outstanding achievement in the classroom as well as the gridiron. Coach Hartman’s defensive units have routinely been among the best in the KVC and in Oakland County. Former players Chase Chandler and Josh Buck are competing successfully on the next level, among others, and his genuine love of football and the belief that lessons on the field will translate into daily life are a part of his charter. David Hartman has been at this awhile. When he joined the ranks of the Novi Unified School District, Jimmy Carter was still President, the Bee Gees were on the radio (not just the oldies station), and gas was about $1.10 per gallon! And any head coach will tell you, the staff of assistants they assemble represent a crucial part of the overall team structure. Congratulations again to Coach David Hartman for this well-deserved acknowledgment. Being selected by the MHSFCA as an ‘assistant coach of the year,’ is a plateau that very few attain. When it comes to Novi football and academics, ya gotta have Hart-man… (c) 2006 Novi
