8-1-2005 This made national news, and that’s a sad commentary. Someone will always be happy to be the bearer of bad news, because it sells… But, good news sells too, and that’s why I’m glad Sam Eggleston is staying in Novi. Recently Sam had an opportunity to move on to a different field, but instead decided to remain here, perhaps acutely aware of his contributions and the positive impact he has surely had on the lives of many Novi residents.
Sam understands that athletes are people, and while they may be star players today, the timeframe is short, and for the rest of their lives, they are still sons and daughters, brothers and sisters, and eventually, mommies and daddies. Given the incredible development and infrastructure of youth sports, high school sports, and off-season training campaigns, virtually every youngster will participate on some sort of team or competition. Sometimes the story extends beyond the playing field and into the personal lives of what makes these young, gifted children excel. What makes them compete? What makes them tick? What makes them who they are? We all see what takes place on the field. Sam Eggleston sees it too. But he also tells us what we don’t see…Not everything is perfect in the world of sports, not every story has a happy ending. In fact, for a Little League parent in Pennsylvania, his situation will land him in jail. But if you look for the good in sports, it’s there all the time as well, you just have to dig a little deeper sometimes. Welcome back home Sam, we know you love to root for the Wildcats. And we love to root for the stories you tell… (c) 2005 Novi
