Kudos to Varsity Lacrosse Coach Brad Muston, on his homecoming and successes with his team. In just his second season, Novi Varsity Lacrosse has become a force to be reckoned with, fashioning winning seasons and helping to produce college caliber lacrosse players.

In fact, their recent win over crosstown rival Northville put an exclamation point on their progress.

A star at Novi in his own right, he was an All-State player, and 10 years ago was a key component in Novi’s State Championship team.

He continued his successes at the Virginia Military Institute, earning his education and Varsity letters while putting up great numbers.

No doubt he was a great influence on his younger brother Pat, as well. Pat was a fine tight end on the 2000 football playoff team, and a fine lacrosse player in his own right as well.

And, even though he’d never even skated, Pat laced up his skates and earned Varsity letters on the hockey team, helping Coach Dan Phelps set the tone for future successes with the hockey program.

It is great to see Novi athletes come back to the community and offer their leadership and teaching skills as the Wildcats strive to be one of the premier athletic programs in the State of Michigan.

The Lacrosse program has produced 18 college bound athletes in the last 10 years, and 1998 graduate Josh Tankersley, is even playing professional lacrosse.

Lacrosse is an exciting game that combines the elements of soccer and hockey, and in addition to requiring great skill, it also requires great toughness and athleticism.

Perhaps the greatest lacrosse player of all time was Syracuse’s Jim Brown, who also went on to be an NFL Hall-of-Famer.

Mark your calendars as Regional play begins May 31st in Clarkston, and you can bet the Novi Wildcats will be ready.

With Coach Muston in charge, you never know, you may be seeing the next Jim Brown.
