- God will be getting 2/21/2005 From people I’ve talked to and from those I’ve heard describe him; he was a young man that smiled at life and all the people in it. He was the life of the party, whether or not he was banging heads against the likes of Milford or Lake Orion, or he was simply hanging out with his friends. This, I am very sure of… He was a fine athlete and a key contributor to some outstanding football teams at Novi HS. His teammates loved him and the coaches respected him. He had an inimitable ability to make everyone around him feel better. In other words, he was a terrific team player. This I do know… I can relate to this tragedy. Upon my HS graduation in 1975, within 11 months our football family tragically lost 3 members. As I look back, my heart hurts when I realize how much life, how much history, and how many experiences Jim Timboe, Bobby Rees, and Ron Sparks missed out on due to their untimely passing. I guess when it comes down to it, we are all day-to-day. But it makes it that much harder to swallow when you witness an ebullient young man see his days come to an end at the tender age of 20. Every parent I’ve talked to had nothing but praise for the wonderful personality that Nick Mainella brought to this life. My son had nothing but nice things to say about him, and truly enjoyed being in his company. The collage on the wall at the Funeral Home was done beautifully as it chronicled the short but full life of a young man that enjoyed great camaraderie with people on the athletic field, as well as around the community, and on the school campus. It is evident that Nick Mainella loved people, and loved being good to people… And, there is one thing that I do know for sure….The people of Novi, Michigan loved him back. God Bless Nick Mainella…. Gone, but never, ever forgotten. (c) 2005 Novi
