“My favorite part of the
game? That’s easy, It’s
simply the opportunity
to play” -Hall of Fame Linebacker Mike Singletary

L.A. broadcaster Fred Roggin used to complain that ‘February was the most boring month on the sports calendar.’ He surmised that there was a lull between the Super Bowl, and the advent of Major League Baseball, as well as the NBA and NHL playoffs.

But Fred has never been to Novi. If past is prologue, then this February will not only be exciting, it has a chance to be one of the most memorable February’s in Novi sports history.

Starting mid-month, the Novi Wildcats will serve as home to the Wrestling District Tournament, on Feb. 16-17 to be exact. Against the likes of Farmington, North Farmington and Northville, the host Cats will be looking to add to their long list of champions over the years.

Meanwhile, Coach Schluter’s hoopsters will head to Northville and they’ll be looking for their 4th consecutive District Championship!

In addition, Novi Hockey will make the trek to Livonia for the Regional Playoffs. In the last few years, the Wildcat Hockey team has won 4 Regional Tournaments, and they’ve made it to the Frozen Four three times.

Hockey and Basketball postseason action will take place the week of Feb 28th. Check the schedules for specific times and matchups.

And of course as always, the local teams will appreciate the support and positive energy from their strong Novi fan base.

The playoffs are a special time. The games and the matches take on a whole different dimension. Many factors enter into the final outcome. You have to be prepared mentally and physically, you have to be healthy, and it doesn’t hurt to be a little lucky, either.

It also takes a special athlete that perform consistently at a high level, knowing in the back of your mind that due to the nature of the ‘sudden death’ formats, today’s contest could be your last of the season, or perhaps even your high school career.

February will be far from boring. Whether or not the Wildcats bring home one, two, or 3 District Championships, or if for whatever reason they are shut out, there is one thing no one can take away from them…

The opportunity to compete is an honor in itself, and the memories will last a lifetime.
