10/3/04 But as the funnyman once said, “the operation was a success, but the patient didn’t survive.” In other words, Novi’s 20-0 whitewashing put an exclamation point on the fact the Cats didn’t swing into town to hail Caesar, but rather to conquer Caesar. And, this week the Novi Wildcats get to host a Homecoming bash of their own. For what it’s worth, I wouldn’t want to be the visiting Hartland Eagles, with all due respect. Novi will also be gracious hosts, everywhere but on the football field. Replete with their maize and blue and winged helmets, the visitors will be facing a team that is on fire. In addition, the Cats will be looking for their 6th win, which will ensure a playoff berth. And for those really scoring at home, take note the visitors were previously coached by Tab Kellepourey, and he is 4-0 against his old charges. In other words Friday night will be another defining moment. The Wildcats have really been turning heads these past few weeks. A cynic might say the KVC is down this year, but you can only ask Novi to beat the teams they play. And they’ve done it with such raw efficiency it only adds a footnote to their impressive record. If the operation is a success Friday night, Novi will be completely in the drivers seat for another KVC Title; they will have garnered a playoff spot, and they will have an excellent chance of earning a home game for at least the first round. In addition, they will have more than survived the challenges of winning on the road, navigating their rivals, and living up to high expectations. More importantly, they are doing a magnificent job of holding up the tradition that is synonymous with hard-hitting Wildcat Football. In other words, the operation is a big success. And, Tradition never graduates…
