Hey Moe, Hey Moe!

“They were a victim of circumstances!”

I’m a big Maureen Pawlak fan. I always have been. So after what has to be a very enjoyable plane ride back from a big week in Orlando, Florida, “Moe” Pawlak must look back at her soccer career the last 4 years, and think, what a way to finish before heading off to Michigan State.

How do you describe it? It must be like trying out for the school play, ending up as an understudy, then landing a gig on Broadway as a headliner.

Novi’s own Maureen Pawlak and her 18U Michigan Hawks are National Champions! And in her age group there are over 1200 teams nationwide featuring over 22,000 players. Needless to say Moe’s Hawks find themselves in rarified air.

Interestingly enough, earlier in the year, after Pawlak scored her 100th career goal for the Novi Wildcats, the first thing she said was, “I’d give them all back for one state championship.”

Well, interestingly enough, she didn’t score a single goal her entire week in Orlando. But, perhaps that says something about the type of impact player she truly is.

Given her great skills, field leadership, and the ability to make everybody around her better, she’s the type of dynamic force that doesn’t have to score to positively contribute to the outcome of a game…or a win…or a National Championship!

Congratulations to Maureen Pawlak and her entire 18U Michigan Hawk organization. The 4-year starter from Novi may never have won an MHSAA State Championship, but it’s only fitting that she ends her youth career with such an impressive achievement.

And I know she’d be the first to thank all her teammates, from the Wildcats to the Hawks, knowing that in some way the influence, the camaraderie, and the competition prepared her for this moment.

Best of luck “Moe” as you head to MSU, and I bet you’ll score a lot of goals in the next 4 seasons.

But, I bet you’d also give them all back for one more National Championship!
