Meet the new boss, 7/5/04 They opened up Sat. June 26th, with a convincing 5-0 whitewashing of Nebraska, and that set the tone. On Sunday, they continued their dominance and pitched another shutout, defeating Ohio South 2-0. Qualifying for the quarterfinals, they would face Minnesota, a team they’d beaten in last years Regional. Minnesota finally got on the board against the high-flying Hawks, but only once, and it wasn’t enough as the 3-1 outcome meant the semi-finals and the Kansas Comets were just around the corner. Kansas drew first blood, and for the first time in 4 games, the Hawks trailed. But in the second half the Hawks played like their pants were on fire and it was raining gasoline! They turned on the Jets, garnered 2 unanswered goals, and advanced to the finals with a 2-1 victory over their very formidable foe. Only the powerful Chicago Magic, playing in their own backyard could stop the Hawks from capturing the prestigious Region 2 Championship. True to form, the U14 Michigan Hawks came up big when they needed it most and in the end they dominated play, shutting out the hometown Magic 2-0! Midwest Regional Champs, Orlando, Florida here we come! High school isn’t back in full-swing until August 30th, when Katie Chaklos, Jamie Fratto, and Jenna Carosio will set foot for the first time on campus as official Novi Wildcats. Until then however, summer school appears to be in session, as these ladies are showing what it takes to be a championship caliber athlete. And along the way, they’re getting a great education. Stay tuned…
