It Ain’t Over…
Until It’s
Completely Over

6/14/04
Although Novi and Northville are not technically “sister cities,” the two neighboring communities share an interesting bond that has certainly been buoyed by athletic competition. In fact, it’s not uncommon that students of both schools have frequently been teammates during summer leagues, Premier Soccer Clubs, CYO basketball, etc.

So, when  Northville girl’s soccer takes on KVC nemesis Brighton Wednesday for the right to go to the state finals Saturday, we’ll be rooting for you. Granted, there isn’t a Novi soccer fan around that doesn’t wish the Wildcats were the ones still competing, but as such if the team that eliminated you goes all the way, there is at least a little consolation… a little! Besides, Novi beat Northville during the regular season.

Meanwhile on Saturday, an extremely impressive Ann Arbor Pioneer team defeated Northville’s baseball team. And, although Northville technically did not eliminate Novi in baseball districts, they beat the team that beat Novi, so had they gone all the way, that might have been a little consolation… a little!

So, at the risk of getting too technical, or asking to be consoled by the cross-town rivals, let’s suffice it to say that if the Northville Mustang Girls soccer team brings home a State Championship, we tip our collective hats and we offer heartiest congratulations.

Of all the great accomplishments of these two schools in the last couple of years, including but not limited to: District Championships in football, basketball, baseball, hockey, and soccer…that ever elusive State Championship is still a possibility.

Yogi Berra was right. It ain’t over until it’s over. So, even though school is out, and some of the athletes have already graduated, they still represent their alma mater, and a state championship would be awesome, even if they don’t attend classes there anymore.

Technically speaking, of course. It ain’t over till it’s over.
