Will Beats
Skill
5/6/04
I am not talking about William Hung here... Although I am a fan, and he
does have the will of a lion, or tiger, or maybe even a Wildcat.
The Calgary Flames proved once again what I've always believed. Heart
overcomes talent, desire prevails, and will beats skill. The Detroit Red
Wings have 7 players going to the Hall of Fame. The Calgary Flames have
25 players going to the Stanley Cup Finals.
The Flames got to loose pucks, out-hustled, out-skated and out-willed
their more accomplished, and more experienced opponents. Every time they
took the ice they looked busier than Fat Albert at Baskin Robbins on
free-scoop Tuesday.
Perhaps William Hung can record a new song and title it, "He Bangs!"...
Onto my point...
As we head into the final weeks of what has been an outstanding sports
year for the Novi Wildcats, three Spring teams are looking to make their
mark.
The baseball team, loaded with talent, is making a mockery of the KVC.
The soccer team, led by their career 100 goal scorer, Maureen Pawlak,
has a great chance to take it all the way to the promised land. And the
lacrosse team has been faring quite nicely in recent weeks as well.
Three distinctly different sports, that all feature dedicated coaches,
good athletes, and the know-how to succeed.
They may want to take a page from the Calgary Flames. Will beats skill.
It's not how good you are, it's how bad you want it. In sudden death
competition, teams are not defined by their past accomplishments or
records, but rather the moment. Simply put, you define the moment, or
the moment defines you.
I'm betting the Wildcats have the skill... and the will.
