Singing Their Praises

2/21/04
Ever get a song stuck in your head? Any doo-wop fans out there? I have the most eclectic music tastes of anyone walking the planet. I like everything from 50’s-60’s all the way up to Outkast and DMX and everything in between… word up.

But the song that’s been stuck in my mind the last few days is “The Wanderer,” by Dion and the Belmonts. You can still hear it on the oldies station and I’d bet you’d recognize it easily.

Maybe it’s because I’m looking ahead to Friday March 5th when Novi visits Pinckney and ostensibly, will have a chance to retain possession of the coveted “travelers trophy.”

That little piece of hardware has gotten quite a bit of publicity around the Detroit area, and it has resided in the KVC Conference since January 13th, when Novi wrested it away from Belleville on the road, thanks to Trevor Hoover’s last second shot.

Novi held it for a couple of weeks until upstart South Lyon yanked it from the Cats on their own home floor one fateful Friday night. But, the South Lyon Lions couldn’t hold serve against Pinckney, and the Pirates now stake ownership. And, after the Pinckney Pirates narrow 53-51 win against Hartland Friday night, they continue to maintain the possession arrow if you get my drift.

Since that South Lyon game, the Wildcat netters have won 6 in a row, and they are starting to flex their muscle. And if they can run the table against upcoming opponents Milford and Hartland, and Pinckney can do the same, the Cats will have a chance to do something nobody else has done…

They could win back the wanderer/ traveler trophy for the second time, and along the way, garner their 2nd straight KVC Championship. I have a good feeling that both of those events are going to take place.

Then maybe I can get that song out of my head…
