November 22nd will take on additional meaning for the rest of our lives. To the friends, family and supporters of Novi football, we all know where we were, physically and emotionally… The key similarity between the loss of our president and the loss of a football game may appear trite, but it’s appropriate. As we replay it over and over in our minds, it’s easy to fret over what might have been, the feeling of missing out on a future opportunity that may have provided even bigger thrills and bigger rewards. But, we can’t look at it that way. Life ain’t fair and neither is the world of sport. Our hearts are bleeding but if we step back and think about the rarified air Wildcat football achieved this year, we’ll realize this team will never be forgotten for all the right reasons. KVC Champs, the
home-victory and retention of the Jug, District Champions, Regional
Champions, State Semi-Finalists, and the only team in Novi history to win
12 football games in a single season… These are accomplishments that truly
define the greatness of the 2003 edition of Varsity Football at Novi HS. Don’t tell that to Vince Lombardi. “Sports is not a matter of life and death,” Lombardi once deadpanned, “It’s much more important than that.” Life goes and and the games go on…And when the hurt starts to go away, we’ll stop and think about Nov 22nd. A smile will begin to emerge. We’ll reflect on what it took to get there. The hard work in the heat of August… The Power Outage of 2003... The overtime victory at Brighton... The classic battles against South Lyon, Milford, Adrian, and MacKenzie. And the chance to watch our boys grow into men. We’ll never, ever forget where we were on Nov 22nd... We were with you, and we always will be.
