10/12/2003 But Novi’s #2 is as big a part of this team as anybody that’s ever suited up to wear the Green and White. Friday night the Cats ran their record to a sparkling 7-0 in front of a Homecoming crowd of 6,000 people. And it was a pretty special night for Brent Pantaleo as well, as he was crowned Homecoming King. Years ago, Avis Rent-A-Car ran a campaign that simply stated, “Were #2, we try harder.” Such a moniker is so appropriate for all the members of the Wildcat Football Family. In the last year, the Cats have won on the road, won in overtime, defeated state-ranked contenders, battled injuries, and all in all, have stared down some very formidable opponents. But no opponent the Cats have seen on the field could come close to the severity, the toughness, and the tenacity that Brent Pantaleo has had to face. But, he’s tried harder and he refuses to lose. What a man! His game face is incredible; he’s always smiling, upbeat and full of life. And he’s winning! Behind every great sports team is a quiet spiritual leader that secretly gives strength and courage when the chips are down. There are defining moments in a game and in a season when it looks like the magic might finally come to an end, perhaps the jig is up, and maybe the run is over. That’s when certain people, imbued with a certain psychological makeup, reach back for that something special that very few have, and they stare down the doomsayer as if to shout, “go find somebody else.” In those instances, the moment doesn’t define them; they define the moment. There have been many such moments in the last year for the Wildcat Football Family, and in each case they have stood tall. To #2 Brent Pantaleo… know you are a big part of that. Shakespeare once said, “Heavy is the head that wears the crown.” Wear it proud my friend… As a community we know that nobody tries harder than you. ___________________________________
