Dressing
for Success

When the Novi Wildcat Football team takes the field on the road in their spiffy Green and Whites, there is one thought that goes through my mind every time…These are the coolest road uni’s in all of High School Football.
They are clean, they are slick, the Cat’s look good in them and they certainly perform well in them too. I’m sure there are some that would disagree with me, but it’s really just an opinion and how do disagree with an opinion? Especially when I’m right! Ha!
Maybe it’s a holdover from childhood…I’ll never forget Joe Namath’s guarantee before Super Bowl III. Even though his NY Jets were prohibitive underdogs to the NFL Champion Baltimore Colts, he not only guaranteed victory, he delivered, as the Jets were victorious 16-7. Namath was so sure they’d win heading into the game, he told Coach Weeb Eubank that he’d better not watch too much film because he was afraid he might get over-confident.
At poolside in Miami a couple of days before the game, Colts DE Ordell Braase was so incensed by Namath’s bravado; he basically challenged him to a fight right there on the pool deck. Namath just smiled and said, “save it for Sunday.”
Perhaps Namath was confident because the Jets were also wearing Green and White road uniforms. In fact they looked exactly like the Novi Wildcats!
The white helmet, jersey, and pants, featured just the right amount of green stripes, green logos, and symmetry, and when the 1969 Jets took the field, they looked pretty good too.
So maybe that’s why I love those Novi Wildcat road uni’s so much, as they remind me of one of the greatest moments in football, featuring perhaps my favorite NFL player of all time, Joe Namath.
Now we all know the Wildcats are humble, respectful of their opponents, and they do all their talking on the field. But they do share one thing in common with Hall-of-Famer Joe Namath.
…They dress just like him!
