Lightening Striking...
Again
9/14/03
Big shout out to Coach Bill Kelp and the Novi Varsity Girls Basketball team for capturing the Northville tournament... Not a bad way to start his new
coaching assignment ...
Likewise to Soccer Coach Brian O’Leary and his talented Boys Team for bouncing back with a huge 3-0 victory over South Lyon after visiting Brighton the night before.
Oh yeah, Brighton, you remember them? I’ll take a guess and say when Lou Christie released his #1 hit “Lightening Strikes,” most Novi parents were in about the 6th grade. But there are some songs you always remember and some things you just never forget.
Two years ago the Novi Football Wildcats locked horns at Brighton, and before the seats were warm the game was 7-7. Brighton scored first, but Novi answered on their first play from scrimmage as Matt Gorman hooked up with Tyson Frantz on a 70-yard bomb.
But then Mother Nature took over… Lightening struck and the game was suspended until the next day. Last year the Bulldogs visited Novi, and as Yogi Berra would say, “It was déjà vu all over again!”
So when Coach Tab Kellepourey’s ‘mean as a snake’ Wildcats invade Brighton next Friday night in what promises to be an epic KVC showdown, I’m not sure if I’d predict lightening again, but I’d definitely look for fireworks.
Brighton is a long-time highly respected program, no one can dispute
that… And so are the Novi Wildcats. One of the great trademarks of this group of kids is that they are real road warriors that are used to heading into hostile ground and marking their territory.
I am hoping Mother Nature doesn’t take over again this time. Rumor has it
veteran coach John Osborne knows her personally, so perhaps he can call in some chips.
But regardless of the weather, the conditions, or any unforeseen circumstances, you can look for the skies to be lit up once again… with footballs. Brighton is deserving of great respect for their tradition and history, and the visiting Cats aren’t the type to let sleeping dogs lie. This team has a lot of fight in it and a lot of life.
In fact, it’s a well-known fact that Cats have nine lives… We’ve known that since the 6th grade!
