It's a Numbers Game

8/26/03
Please take a minute to note the following numbers: #2, #2, #3, #5, #7, #9…Now, annotate the following Varsity Fall sports teams for Novi High School. Girls Tennis, Boys Cross Country, Boys Golf, Girls Cross Country, Varsity Football and Boys Varsity Soccer.

There are over 60 High Schools in Oakland County, and the Novi Wildcats enjoy Top 10 rankings in each of the aforementioned sports, respectively in the order listed above. And while you’re at it, note the fact the Girls Swim Team is slated to finish 2nd in the KVC Conference.

It’s great to see the Cats’ represented by indoor and outdoor units, boys and girls, and team events as well as individual performers.

Boys Golf will be looking to defend their state title and they return many key players.

Meanwhile the football team will be looking to build on their District Championship Team of 2002, and their #7 pre-season county ranking is impressive.

And, as they said in the Oakland Press, when it comes to Cross-Country in Novi, “they don’t rebuild, they reload.” With a roster loaded with perennial all-staters, they’ll once again compete for a Division I Championship. And the Girls Cross-Country team could be the surprise of the entire county with a roster that offers great depth.

The Boys Soccer team is in the books already with a season opening victory over Churchill 4-1, and their talent-laden squad is going to be one of the top teams in the state.

The Girls Tennis team returns 8 key players from a squad that was 10-0 last season and finished 8th in the state meet.

Someone once said you need a program to tell who the players are. In the case of the Novi Wildcats, you might want to pick up a record book as well.

The Wildcats are picking up where they left off, and the fall season looks spectacular.

As ZZ TOP once said, “the future’s so bright, you gotta wear shades.”
