Roger That!

The 1980 Republican National Convention was held locally and featured a
slogan that stated simply, “Detroit Loves a Party!”
So does Novi, and they were treated to one Monday August 11th, and the
best part is, Novi HS Athletics benefited greatly. Hats off to Roger
Jaussi for his efforts in hosting the 2nd Annual Novi Varsity Hockey
outing.
Held at prestigious Walnut Creek Country Club, the day included lunch
and dinner, a silent auction, a raffle, an awards presentation, plenty
of laughs and camaraderie, and of course 18 holes of very enjoyable,
competitive golf on 3 different courses.
Participants enjoyed side attractions such as closest to the pin, the
longest drive, a skins game and the general shenanigans that accompany
that idiosyncratic sub-culture we have come to know as golf fanatics.
The tournament was also graced by the presence of NHL Hall-of-Famer Bill
Gadsby, as well as Pat Sheridan, a member of the 1985 World Series
Champion Kansas City Royals, and the 1987 Division Champ Detroit Tigers.
Over 20 teams participated in the scramble format and every group was
either at, or under par for their cumulative score. In addition folks
were treated to a preview of the upcoming Hockey schedule for the
2003-2004 season. Once again the Wildcats will take on the likes of
Brother Rice, East Kentwood, East Grand Rapids and others as well as
multiple tournaments and the always tough KVC conference.
Willy Wonka once stated, “We are the makers of music and dreamers of
dreams.” And for golfers, hockey fans, proud parents, and athletic
boosters, Monday was like being a kid in a candy store.
Thanks again to Roger Jaussi and an entire team of dedicated volunteers
for their huge collective assist on achieving the goal of Novi’s
continued success in establishing it’s reputation as a first-class
statewide hockey power.
Novi fans love their hockey, their hockey players, and they love a party
too. I guess you could call Monday’s event a Hat Trick for the ages.
