There’s an old saying in Texas…
"I may not have been born here, but I got here as fast as I
could."
Perhaps the same could be said for Toni Nagy. While she was
not born in Novi, or even born in the United States, when she
arrived in 1982, her enthusiasm was immediate and it has carried
on for almost 25 years.
"I really thought Novi was a
better place to live,” she stated. “And I bought a condominium
right away, because I thought Novi was beautiful."
Toni Nagy would know. She has traveled throughout the world
and loved spending her summers in Europe.
Her high opinion continues today.
"What I really like about
Novi," she added, "Is that it is very accessible, we are close
to all major freeways." "The city also features an excellent
school system which draws people from all over, as well as
beautiful parks and a sense of community."
"There is also a high level of participation as City
functions have grown."
Toni Nagy was elected as a City Councilperson in November
2003. Prior to that she served as Chairperson of the Novi
Planning Commission from 2002-2003. She was also the Chairperson
of the Master Plan and Zoning Committees as well.
Her role as a councilperson is very clear…
"I want to
represent the best interests of the residents and the
taxpayers." To that end, Toni indicates that she always "votes
her conscience."
She acknowledges that sometimes decisions are tough, but she
will not compromise her integrity. Her goal is to be
fiscally responsible with taxpayer’s money.
In addition, her responsibilities often require that she
investigate problems. Issues involving road construction,
flooding, city ordinance violations, etc. are just some of the
items she gets involved with.
Toni Nagy takes great pride in listening to residents. She
blends the needs and wants of individuals with what’s best for
the city, and sometimes interaction with fellow council members
can become spirited, but she is quick to note, "I have
great respect for my fellow council members, even though we
don’t always agree."
She notes that it is healthy when two individuals
are able to discuss differing opinions, as true progress can
result.
As for the future, Toni Nagy is
emphatic when she states, "I look forward to continuing on to
make Novi an even better place to live."
"I am a people person and one
of the nice things about being on city council is all the great
people I've met and the many new friends I have made," she
explains.
Even back in the mid-90’s, before her involvement with City
Government, Toni Nagy was active with the Condo Association, and
was elected to the Board of Directors, and eventually was named
President.
Her mission was to keep things spruced up and to make the
environment a nice place to live.
Living and working in Novi has been a great experience for
Toni Nagy and all the lives she’s touched. She is working hard
to make Novi an even better place.
And the best is yet to come…
